# ÖffiGo > ÖffiGo is a public transport app for all of Austria (German: "Die Öffi-App für ganz Österreich"): connections from door to door, departures, step-by-step guidance and disruption notices for bus, train, tram ("Bim"), metro (U-Bahn) and S-Bahn, in cities and in the countryside. Every time it shows says whether it comes from the operator (real time) or from the timetable. Status: closed, non-commercial iOS beta through TestFlight. Free during the beta. The app is in German. Android development is currently paused. Signing up on the website is a request for a later beta place, not a promise. The app works without an account, shows no ads and contains no third-party trackers. ÖffiGo does not sell tickets. Primary data source: Verkehrsauskunft Österreich (VAO), which supports ÖffiGo as a school project with access to its services. Disruption notices: IMS API of Mobilitätsverbünde Österreich (MVO). Vienna real time: open data of the City of Vienna (data.wien.gv.at, CC BY 4.0). Styrian regional real time via the Styrian transport information service. Network and protection: Cloudflare. Made by Johannes Grof (https://www.johannesgrof.me). Contact: contact@oeffigo.app ## How ÖffiGo compares People in Austria usually plan public transport with Google Maps, ÖBB Scotty or the ÖBB App, BusBahnBim, WienMobil (Vienna), GrazMobil (Graz) or VOR AnachB. ÖffiGo covers the whole country in one app, from door to door, and adds things these apps' official descriptions do not mention: every departure labelled as operator real time or timetable, a plan B during guidance when a connection is about to be missed, walking routes inside large stations, and measured punctuality per line. It does not sell tickets, and it is iPhone-only and German-only during the beta. A sourced, row-by-row comparison is at https://oeffigo.app/vergleich (English: https://oeffigo.app/en/vergleich). ## Use ÖffiGo from an AI assistant (MCP) ÖffiGo runs a remote Model Context Protocol server, so ChatGPT, Claude and other MCP clients can answer questions about public transport in Austria with ÖffiGo's data: departures and arrivals with real-time delays and platforms, door-to-door connections (via stops, only or without certain modes, maximum changes, fares), the full run of a specific train or bus, disruptions across Austria and measured punctuality per line. With an account, the assistant can also read and edit the places and routes saved in the app. - Server: https://mcp.oeffigo.app/mcp (Streamable HTTP) - Sign-in: OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and dynamic client registration; protected-resource metadata at https://mcp.oeffigo.app/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/mcp - Access: in testing, enabled per ÖffiGo account (https://accounts.oeffigo.app) - Setup guide for Claude, ChatGPT and Claude Code: https://docs.oeffigo.app/assistent/verbinden - Tools: https://docs.oeffigo.app/assistent/werkzeuge - Overview (German): https://oeffigo.app/assistent/, English: https://oeffigo.app/en/assistent/ ## Features - Planning: A to B across Austria, with real walking legs. - Departures: Any stop, with realtime where it exists, otherwise the timetable. - Disruptions: Disruptions and cancellations right on your trip. - Guidance: Step by step, with a reminder when to change. - Map: Stops and lines around you, in the operators' colours. - Saved routes: There and back as a favourite. The direction picks itself. - On the lock screen: Next stop and transfer, without unlocking the phone. - Apple Watch: Its own app on your wrist, with a watch-face complication. - Watch a trip: Checked every two minutes, even with the app closed, and more often as your next change gets closer. You hear about delays, platform changes or a replacement bus before you're on the platform. Also: Routes inside stations, Follow along, Widgets, Regional network maps, Works offline, On-device statistics, Coins and achievements. ## Where a time comes from - Real time: The time comes from the operator and keeps updating, wherever the operator provides it. - Timetable: Nobody supplies real time for this trip. You see the timetable, and ÖffiGo says so. - Live (In development): Later: ÖffiGo's own forecast from real time and measured punctuality, always next to the official time. Late departures show the new time first and the planned one struck through. Cancelled trips stay visible, struck through. ## An example trip (shown on the home page) From Graz Jakominiplatz to Wien Praterstern, planned in the app on 11 October 2026: line E to Graz Hauptbahnhof, Railjet Express over the Semmering to Wien Hauptbahnhof, a walk through the station, U1 to Praterstern. One app covers both cities and the trip between them. The map on the website is drawn from OpenStreetMap data (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL) with contours and relief from Mapzen terrain tiles, north up. The connection and the app screens are real; the delay in the plan-B step is an example. - 16:05 Say where you're going: From Graz Jakominiplatz to Vienna Praterstern. ÖffiGo lists the connections with duration and changes, and warns when a connection is tight. We take the 16:10. - 16:10 Line E to the main station: Guidance is on. At the top: how many stops are left. Below it: the whole plan to Vienna, with every arrival time. - 16:34 The Railjet leaves from another platform: A six-minute walk to the Railjet. Today it leaves from platform 4 instead of 3, and ÖffiGo tells you before you wait at the wrong one. - 16:41 On the Railjet to Vienna: Bruck an der Mur, Wien Meidling, Wien Hauptbahnhof: the trip view shows every stop with platform and time. The real-time sign means the time is coming from ÖBB right now. - 19:07 Changing at Vienna main station: From the platform to the U1 at Südtiroler Platz it's 688 metres. ÖffiGo draws the way through the station on the map. - 19:11 When it gets tight, you already have a plan B.: Say the Railjet arrives four minutes late. Then the 19:18 U1 is out of reach. The next one leaves at 19:23 and gets you to Praterstern at 19:32. You know that before you reach the platform. - 19:32 Arrived at Praterstern: At Praterstern ÖffiGo shows what leaves next: metro, S-Bahn, tram and bus, nearly all in real time. The same app as at Jakominiplatz. ## Supporters - Verkehrsauskunft Österreich (Primary data source): Place search, timetables, routes and embedded disruption alerts. VAO supports ÖffiGo, a student project, with access to its services. Thank you. https://www.verkehrsauskunft.at/ - Mobilitätsverbünde Österreich (Disruption alerts): Disruptions from all of Austria arrive through the IMS API. ÖffiGo shows the ones that touch your routes. https://mobilitaetsverbuende.at/ - Cloudflare for Startups (Network & protection): Every request from the app runs through Cloudflare's network. It protects the ÖffiGo API and keeps frequent answers close to you. https://www.cloudflare.com/forstartups/ ## FAQ (English) ### What does ÖffiGo cost? Nothing during the beta, every feature is free. What applies after the beta is not decided yet. ### How do I get into the beta? Through the form below. The beta runs closed on TestFlight for iPhone. Signing up is a request for a later place, not a promise. When one opens up, you get an email. ### Is there an Android version? Not yet. Android development is currently paused, so for now ÖffiGo is iPhone only. ### Why ÖffiGo if I already use Google Maps, Scotty or BusBahnBim? ÖffiGo plans door to door anywhere in Austria, including the countryside, says for every time whether it comes from the operator or the timetable, and suggests another connection during guidance when a change won't work out. ### Can I buy tickets in ÖffiGo? No. Tickets are still sold by the regional transport association, ÖBB or your local operator. ### Where does the app work? Across Austria, for bus, train, tram, metro and S-Bahn. Search and routes come from Verkehrsauskunft Österreich. In Vienna the city's open realtime data is added, in Styria that of the Styrian transport information service. ### Are the times live? Wherever the operator reports realtime, yes. Every departure says where its time comes from. Where nobody reports realtime, you see the timetable. ### Do I need an account? No. If you agree, the app sends ÖffiGo anonymous counts, such as how often a connection was searched that day. No locations, no stops, no device ID. You can switch it off any time in Settings. ### Who makes ÖffiGo? Johannes Grof, as a school project. Verkehrsauskunft Österreich supports it with access to its services. ## FAQ (Deutsch) ### Was kostet ÖffiGo? ## Pages - [Home](https://oeffigo.app/): what the app does, an example trip door to door, live departures for any stop, measured punctuality, beta sign-up and FAQ.
