Data & method

Where the data comes from

The numbers on this website come from three sources: operator realtime, the official timetable and our own measurement. Where a value is missing you see a dash.

Three kinds of timehow each one is labelled

Operator realtime

Delays and cancellations as the operators report them, for example Wiener Linien. The operator's time is its current estimate of when the vehicle leaves.

Labelled “operator delay”.

Official timetable

The scheduled times from the timetable. They exist for every trip, even without realtime.

Labelled “timetable”.

Our own measurement & estimates

From measured arrivals and departures we compute our own numbers: punctuality after the fact, departure estimates ahead of it. An estimate is only shown where it grades well against official realtime.

Labelled “our own live estimate” or “measured”.

Sources and their rolewhere each kind of data comes from

Verkehrsauskunft Österreich (VAO)

Primary source for nationwide timetables, place search, routing and embedded disruption information.

Mobilitätsverbünde Österreich (MVO)

The IMS API delivers nationwide disruption information to ÖffiGo's server.

Wiener Linien Open Data

Official operator realtime for Vienna stops and the network map's live departure boards.

Offene Echtzeitdaten Steiermark

TRIAS provides regional scheduled and actual times. Open GTFS Realtime trip updates complement the measurements in Styria.

OpenStreetMap · Apple MapKit

OpenStreetMap supplies the paths inside stations. Apple Maps provides the map and the search for addresses and places in the app.

GeoSphere Austria · Open-Meteo

Weather data from GeoSphere Austria feeds into the estimates. Open-Meteo provides the weather shown in the app.

What we measure ourselves

We count individual stops: arrivals and departures at the platform, not GPS points from moving vehicles. Every day we compare our estimates with the operators' official realtime and record the deviation. That decides whether an estimate is shown. Current figures:

93.2 %

under 3 minutes deviation

Coverage windows15 July 2026 — 12 October 2026

Processing completes each day before it counts: a day appears in the statistics only once all of that day's arrivals and departures have been handled. So the end of a chart can sit behind today's date. When collection for an area is paused, the affected charts show the historical stand through the last complete day and say so.
